Course Description

The Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance is an industry-leading high-end all-in-one security appliance suitable for any size organization. This course looks at this awesome Cisco product. This course covers the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA). These are purpose-built solutions that integrate firewall, unified communications security, VPN, IPS, and content security services in a unified platform.

The ASA is basically a stateful packet filter with Application Inspection and Control (AIC), combined with a rich set of optional integrated software and hardware features that allow you to expand functionality. The ASA provides intelligent threat defense that stops attacks before they penetrate the network perimeter, controls network and application activity, and delivers secure remote access and site-to-site connectivity. Cisco offers several models of the ASA to meet customer's needs ranging from remote/teleworker to high-end data center models.

This course is taught by Michael Shannon. Michael Shannon has been working in computing for many years, gaining his first introduction to computing on the Computer Lab mainframe at the University of Houston in the late 70's. He attended graduate school at Texas Tech University, where he passed up a career in Law to follow a path in the music industry. While working in the studio with analog and digital recording, he realized his love for technology and networking and he soon combined that interest with teaching and technical training. Beginning in 1996, he traveled all over the US doing Microsoft MCSE seminars in roadshows for Mastering Computers/Platinum Technology.

Since then he has worked with Hewlett-Packard, Boloto Group, Fujitsu, IBM, State Farm Insurance, Mindsharp, Thomson NetG, CBT Nuggets, and Skillsoft Corp. He holds numerous CompTIA, Microsoft, and Cisco certifications, and was one of the first to achieve the Certified HIPAA Security Specialist (CHSS) in 2002. He has been specializing in network security ever since. He has also authored three books relating to Cisco Internetworks, MCSE Exchange, and A+ Operating Systems. The three books are Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks Exam Cram 2, MCSE Exchange 2000 Design Exam Prep, and A+ Operating Systems Certification Study Guide.
